The United States Tennis Association (USTA), owner of 93.8% of the Masters 1000 de Cincinnati in the male part according to the portal report Sports Business Journal, put the organization of the tournament up for sale. If the millionaire transfer materializes, the traditional event that this year will be held from August 13 to 21 could emigrate to another city.
It is one of the oldest tournaments in the world and is part of the North American tour that leads to the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season. Since its inception in 1899, the contest has been held in Mason, Ohio, and has never moved from there.
It is worth mentioning that Cincinnati is the only tournament that has two owners: USTA owns the rights to the ATP, while the Octagon company owns the WTA, Therefore, if the sale is signed, the women’s contest will not change venue.
Following the publication of the portal, the USTA bought the tournament in 2009 for a sum close to 12 million dollars, it has invested about 65 million and seeks to obtain an approximate figure of 400 million dollars.
