This victory is actually only worth half! The Veilchen Ladies managed the highest win of the season against USC Heidelberg, who had already been relegated, with 92:57 (48:16), but it is put into perspective – unfortunately from a Göttingen point of view – by the 78:70 success of relegation rivals SV Halle Lions against the USC Freiburg.

Goettingen – The medical instinct Veilchen BG 74 Goettingen are still three wins behind Halle before the last four games. Since staying up in the league is almost out of reach.

“Why should we give up hope of staying up in the league?” asked playmaker Jennifer Crowder after this clear win against the newly promoted women. Because as long as staying in the league is mathematically and sportingly possible, coach Goran Lojo’s team will do everything possible and will not have given up by a long shot.

This unconditional will to make it after all – possibly with a helping hand – was clearly noticeable in the game against Heidelberg. With a sensationally strong defence, the hosts gave the tail light just two meager points in the first quarter, won it clearly 23:2 and laid the foundation for the subsequent thrashing. And in the second quarter, too, the violets didn’t give up and went into the half-time break with a 48:16.

“If you’re already leading so clearly at this point, then you lose concentration a little, but that doesn’t change anything about our good performance,” said Lojo, explaining in an understandable way that his team was no longer able to do it after the change with the defensive quite as precisely, but without jeopardizing the victory at any stage. Rather, things continued to go well on the offensive, which his players were able to document with a total of 15 successful throws beyond the perimeter. And the recently signed center Emese Vida, who had disappointed in the three previous games, now adapted to the good level of her team, managed to score four points and also worked hard under both baskets.

One of her strongest performances was offered by Marie Reichert, who was rewarded with 19 points. It is also pleasing that the only 18-year-old Meike Oevermann dared to do something. You get two three-point throws.

After the many low blows in the past games, this sense of achievement with this convincing victory was extremely important for the violets in order to concentrate on the last four games again and to approach them with the necessary self-confidence.

Quarter results: 23:2, 25:14 – 19:18, 25:23.

BG 74: M. Oevermann 6/of which 2 threes, A. Oevermann, Crowder 16/2, Karambatsa 3, Reichert 19/1, Brabencova 11/2, Bujniak 16/4, Tudor 17/4, Vida 4.
