While tensions ran high on the field, the animosity spilled over into the streets of Lumajang, East java, leaving a young Bonek supporter critically injured.
The victim, identified only as AN, a resident of Kloposawit village in Candipuro District, was targeted by a group of Arema FC supporters wielding sharp weapons.The brutal attack left AN requiring immediate medical attention and fighting for his life.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, the perpetrators also vandalized the ASIFA Football School (SSB), a local youth football academy. This senseless act of destruction highlights the dangerous escalation of fan violence that threatens the spirit of sportsmanship and the safety of communities.This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased security measures and stricter penalties to deter such acts of aggression. Moderator: You’ve spoken before about the need for stronger security measures at football matches. Do you think that could have prevented this tragedy?
Carlos: Absolutely. While we can’t eliminate all risk,
appropriate security presence both inside and outside the stadium can deter violence and allow for quicker response times. This also involves educating stewards and security personnel in de-escalation techniques.
Moderator: But are stricter penalties the answer? Some argue that harsher punishments for perpetrators, including potential lifetime bans from stadiums, are necessary to send a strong message.
Carlos: In conjunction with improved security, yes, I agree. We need a multi-pronged approach. Punishments need to be meaningful and deter others from engaging in this destructive behavior.
