The Bundesliga club expects UEFA to cancel the match in the near future. The first leg should have taken place on March 10 (6.45 p.m.) in Leipzig, the second leg was scheduled for March 17 (9 p.m.). However, this game should have been played on a neutral pitch following UEFA’s decision to ban Russian and Ukrainian teams from playing international home games for the time being.
There has been contact between UEFA and those responsible at RB for a few days about Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. “We are still in close contact with the associations and have full confidence in UEFA and their decision. We assume that the games will be canceled,” said RB CEO Oliver Mintzlaff when asked by dpa. According to the relevant UEFA regulations, RB would then move straight into the quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals of the Europa League will be played between April 7th and 14th. Possible Leipzig opponents have not yet been determined.
