The Red Bull Racing team was one of the winners of the first winter test. The Austrian racing stable kept their new RB18 a secret from the general public. With great interest, the test started in Barcelona and something immediately stood out. Among other things, the sidepods and the rear suspension received a lot of attention.
The Red Bull therefore caused a lot of surprise and above-average interest among the competition. The car turned out to be quite reliable and people turned the necessary laps. However, Sergio Perez had to miss almost an entire afternoon due to some problems with the new car. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, had no major problems.
Brawn
The car they were in was the real eye-catcher. This was also noticed in Italy and the major sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport drew conclusions. According to the sports newspaper, the car also attracted the attention of the high-ranking sportsmen and women of the sport. The newspaper reports that Formula 1 leaders Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds personally came to take a look at the pit box of the Austrian racing stable. The gentlemen came to check whether the new car was legal, but they didn’t seem to find anything wrong.
Porpoising
Brawn and Symonds were particularly interested in one particular part of the new car. The duo looked with above-average interest at the rear suspension of the RB18. According to the sports newspaper, it is built in such a way that the bumping can keep porpoising under control without sacrificing the returned ground effect.
