Pays Basque.  Archer from Anglet Guillaume Toucoullet finishes vice-world champion in Dubai

Five months after the Paralympic Games in Japan and two years from Paris 2024, the World Disabled Archery Championships in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) from February 19 to 27, 2022. L’Angloy Guillaume Toucoullet finished vice-world champion in a final full of twists and turns.

An abortive comeback

Among the five French archers entered during this competition, the Angloy Guillaume Toucoullet finished in the RMO category (Recurve men) Vice World Champion. Guillaume Toucoullet lost at the end of the suspense against the Japanese Tomohiro Ueyama.

Led 4/0 after the first two ends won by the Japanese with a score of 29 to 27. In the third set the French finished tied 27 to 27. The Angloy then took the next two sets for a belle comeback which unfortunately stopped on the dam arrow.

13 years without medals for the French men’s team

The Basque, Guillaume Toucoullet, therefore won the silver medal during these world championships. It hadn’t happened for the men since Fabrice Meunier’s medal in 2009 at Nymburk in the Czech Republic. A total of 223 athletes and 40 nations participated in the world championships. Note that China was the big absentee from this competition.
