Sepp Straka s’impose au Honda Classic

A final birdie in the rain on 18 and Sepp Straka wins. And yet, at the dawn of this last round, the Austrian was five strokes behind Daniel Berger, leader after 54 holes. But on the course of the PGA National, the 21st player in the world had a complicated last day. Berger counts on his card, a double, four bogeys for only two birdies. The Ryder Cup player signs a heavy 74 (+4) and is demoted to 4th place at -7 total.

« I didn’t play well today so I didn’t win. It’s a shame but I didn’t hit the right shots at the right time. It’s golf. A lot of players played better than me today. »

Straka first

For his part, Straka had a solid last day. The 28-year-old recorded no less than six birdies this Sunday for only two bogeys. His 66 (-4) is one of the best cards of the day. Only Cameron Young (16th -Par) author of a 65 (-5) did better in the 4th round.

With a total score of -10, the Austrian is one step ahead of Shane Lowry and lifts his first trophy on the PGA Tour. ” It’s a crazy course, there are really no easy holes. Everything can change at any time from one side to the other.»

A success allowing him to win a ticket for the next Augusta Masters. « It’s crazy, it’s been my lifelong dream to be in Augusta in about a month. It’s still surreal to me. I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon, but right now I think it’s crazy. »
