Ex-Bundesliga professional Teigl swallows tongue – and is saved – football

At the last moment!

There was a dramatic incident in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday. In the game between Austria Vienna and Wolfsberger AC (1-0), Austria professional Georg Teigl (31) fell unconscious after a collision. Wolfsberg professional Luka Lochoshvili (23) acted at lightning speed and probably saved his opponent’s life.

Shocking second in the 88th minute!

After a collision with Wolfsberg talent Veratschnig, Teigl remains dazed on the field. Lochoshvili reacts with presence of mind. He rushes to Teigl and pulls his tongue out of his throat. As a result, the central defender prevents worse.

The Georgian after the game at “Sky Austria”: “I just saw him lying there. I just walked over and saw his eyes outside. I have some experience with situations like this. I opened his mouth and I think I pulled his tongue out at the last second. Thank god he made it. The most important thing is that his life is saved.”

Teigl could be replaced with support after the rescue operation.

Austria Wien announced on Monday that there was no longer any danger to life. Accordingly, Teigl suffered a skull fracture, a zygomatic fracture and a broken jaw. According to the club, an operation is not necessary from the current point of view.

On Instagram, Teigl’s wife Karin thanked rescuer Lochoshvili: “So much love and strength comes in. Thank you thank you thank you! We simply have the best guardian angels in the world of the so-called I eich!!!!!!!! ☝ and the worst lifesaver @lukaloch!!!! Beyond thankful!

Teigl has been under contract with Austria Vienna since 2020. Before that he was active in Germany for many years, playing for Leipzig, Braunschweig and Augsburg, among others. The right-back made 27 appearances for FCA in the German Bundesliga.
