The world of sport is sanctioning Russia, canceling most of the sports competitions in Putin’s country or blocking the presence of fans. In one case, with a strong symbolic value, the International Judo Federation suspended the Russian president, honorary member and ambassador of the association.
The first and most important event in Russia, removed from the calendar, is the Formula 1 GP in Sochi for the time being it has been removed and the Champions League final: UEFA has moved the Champions League final on May 28 from St. Petersburg, in Russia, in Paris. Russia will not be suspended, but the European matches and the duels of the national team will have to be played on a neutral pitch and without fans.
All scheduled Badminton events in Russia and Belarus will be removed from the calendar – the International Badminton Association (BWF) also states that the flags and anthems of the two countries will not be allowed during BWF events. Also, the International Curling Federation is taking the European Championship (November 19th to 26th) away from the Russian city of Perm. Where, it is not yet known.
From motocross to rugby, many other events have been moved or canceled. And the 44th Moscow Chess Olympiad, NOS says, is also organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The nearly 100-year-old event will be held from July 26 to August 8. Where it is still not clear.
The Netherlands will also not participate in the Volleyball World Cup, which this year will be played in Russia even if the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has not yet made a decision on moving the World Cup.
However, the FIVB has decided that the two Nations League rounds in June and July will not be played in Russia.
