Price beats Wright in Euro Tour final in Riesa and remains number one in the world

Gerwyn Price has won the International Darts Open. The Iceman defeated his rival Peter Wright 8-4 to retain his first position in the world rankings.

The Welshman had to win the Euro Tour tournament in Riesa to remain number one in the world. With victories over Ritchie Edhouse (6-3), Damon Heta (6-2), Danny Noppert (6-4) and Nathan Aspinall (7-3) Price managed to reach the final battle. Wright dealt with Luke Woodhouse (6-0), Niko Springer (6-2), Michael Smith (6-5) and Jonny Clayton (7-3).

The final was one of a high level. In the end, it was Price’s finishes that were decisive, as the former rugby player hit eight of his nine darts on the doubles.

An important moment in the match was the fifth leg, in which Price knocked out 108 for a break. He then took a 6-4 lead with two 13-darters in his own legs.

Wright was able to narrow the deficit in the eleventh leg, but the Scots missed three darts on the doubles. Price threw out 80 for 7-4 and then pulled off a brilliant finish with a 130 finish.
