Now, however, Zverev wants to concentrate on the Davis Cup, for which he surprisingly reported at short notice. “Together with the team, I have the big goal of winning the Davis Cup once. Whenever there is a chance, I’m happy to do my part,” said Zverev in an interview with the German Tennis Association (DTB).
Zverev expects “tough duel” against Brazil
Even if he criticized the new Davis Cup format, “there might be an opportunity to play with the team in Germany again,” Zverev added: “That would be a big dream of mine.”
Djokovic supports Zverev exclusion: “It was right”
“A tough duel” is imminent against Brazil. “We’re preparing for a loud home crowd. I think we don’t have to hide from anyone and can keep up with any other team with our best formation and our team spirit.”
The hosts counted on Melo, among others, who will play the doubles together with Bruno Soares. For Germany, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz will compete in doubles, plus Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff in singles. In addition, team captain Michael Kohlmann had nominated Daniel Altmaier and Oscar Otte.
Zverev also commented on the war in Ukraine. In these times you realize once again “that there are more important things in life than tennis”. The most important thing is “that there is peace in the world,” said the Hamburger: “No matter what country you come from, we are all people who should live together in peace. Sport and the Davis Cup can always be a sign for a peaceful coexistence in the world.”
