The Ukrainian Andrei Voronin, former Bundesliga professional and most recently assistant coach at Dynamo Moscow, fled Russia on the day the war began. In the interview he talks about the catastrophe in his home country.

Andrei Voronin, 42, was born in Odessa in what was then the Soviet Union. At the age of 16 he switched to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he became a successful Bundesliga player, playing for Mainz 05, Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha BSC, among others. Voronin played 76 caps for Ukraine. After his active career, he entered the coaching business, and since October 2020 he has been the assistant to the German head coach Sandro Schwarz at Dynamo Moscow. Schwarz is still on duty, while Voronin left Russia on the morning of February 24. The SZ reached him on the phone in Düsseldorf.
