Hansjorg Wyss, one of Switzerland’s richest men, said on Wednesday that he has been approached to buy Chelsea, as attention on the club’s current owner, Russian Roman Abramovich, only grows. Wyss86, founder of the medical equipment manufacturing company Synthes, told the Swiss newspaper Blick that he had been contacted on Tuesday along with three other people.

This announcement follows Abramovich’s statement published on Saturday, in which he announced his intention to entrust his shares in the club to the administrators of the Chelsea Foundation. “Abramovich is part of Putin’s closest circle of advisers and friends,” Wyss told the Blick newspaper. “Like all other oligarchs, he is scared.

He wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly. Along with three other people, on Tuesday I received an offer to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.”

“I want to reflect for another four or five days. Abramovich is asking for a lot at the moment. Chelsea owes him 2 billion pounds ($2.676 million), but Chelsea has no money. It means that those who buy the Chelseathey must compensate Abramovich,” he explained.

The Swiss stated in conclusion that he would not launch this operation “alone”. “If I buy the Chelseait will be together with a group of six or seven investors,” he added. For the moment, Abramovich does not appear, to the general surprise, in the growing list of British sanctions against pro-Kremlin Russian banks, companies and tycoons.
