Feyenoord is letting it go against the subtoppers this season. In the second half of the season, the team from Rotterdam lost at home to Vitesse and lost against AZ last weekend. The second place will therefore be a difficult story, says Jan Everse.
“Being third is the maximum for Feyenoord,” says the former trainer in conversation with RTV Rijnmond† ”You don’t become a champion by winning against those teams, but these are points against your direct competitors. If you lose to that, you will have a hard time keeping third place. AZ is now only three points behind.”
Staying ahead of AZ will therefore be difficult enough for Feyenoord. Especially now that the team of trainer Arne Slot barely manages to create opportunities. The Alkmaarders had set up the team last weekend to stop Luis Sinisterra. The Colombian always had two men on his skin. There was no threat from the other side either.
”From the right there is mainly a cross and it must come from Geertruida. That’s not his best quality,” said Everse. “Excellent defender, but constructively it is limited. Then Pedersen is the better of the two. Little came from that side. Sinisterra played against two people and then it becomes difficult for him too. Then you have someone else free or spare. Feyenoord is not that far yet to use that.”
