Sports sanctions have intensified against Russia since its armed offensive in Ukraine. The country is suspended from all international basketball competitions. It is the world body of the ball in the basket which pronounced this sanction, this Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
Russian clubs and national men’s and women’s teams of Russia will no longer participate in international basketball competitions. This drastic measure, which takes effect immediately, also concerns Russian officials, until further notice.
If the situation does not change, Russia will therefore not be able to participate in the Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will take place from September 22 to October 1, 2022 in Australia. In the meantime, the meeting between Russia and the Netherlands, scheduled for next weekend, as part of the men’s World Cup qualifiers, has already been canceled.
