“I’m fine with tennis; it’s going to be a very tough series”

The Argentine Davis Cup team completed another day of training at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, where this Friday the 4th the series corresponding to the Qualifiers against the Czech Republic, for a place in the Davis Cup Finals.

Diego Schwartzman, team leader, attended the press after training and spoke about how he is hours before the series and the rival: “I’m good at tennis. I think that since Monday we have done good training. It will be a complicated series, very hard. They have two very good singlesbeyond that they do not have the experience of several of us, but they are young”.

In turn, he spoke about his two possible rivals: “Of the Czech singles players, I know (Tomas) Machac more than (Jiri) Lehecka, especially because I faced him at the Tokyo Olympics. It was a very tough match, on cement. I saw Lehecka now training. They are two players who hit the ball very hard, they try to be aggressive from all sectors of the pitch”.

Who also attended the media was Sebastian Baez. The recent finalist of the Santiago ATP commented on what his debut in the Davis Cup generates: “If I have to play, my nerves will be normal and I’ll be eager to do my best. If it’s not my turn to play, I’ll also be nervous because we’re playing as a team and for Argentina, and I’ll always want to do the best we can”.

Comparing his experience between the youth teams and his Davis Cup debut, he said: “I think it has certain similarities because we share a team, the concentration, the training, the dinners and the intimate things that happen in a group.” And he added: “It is not the same to represent your country elsewhere than here at home and with so many people.”

Led by Guillermo Coria, the national team returned to double-shift training, with Schwartzman, Báez, Federico Coria, doubles players Máximo González and Horacio Zeballos, and sparring partners Mariano Navone and Tomás Etcheverry. In addition to the exercises on the court, the players worked out in the gym together with the kinesiologist Mariano Seara and the physical trainer Martiniano Orazi.

It should be remembered that, One week into the Davis Cup series between Argentina and the Czech Republic, the local team made a forced modification. The captain, Guillermo Coria, summoned Federico, his younger brother, due to Federico Delbonis being injured.

This Thursday at 11 the draw will be held. In the afternoon, Argentina will train from 15 for the last time before the start of the series. Czech Republic will do it from 13.
