Timo Werner prevents Chelsea’s cup embarrassment

Russian Abramovich announces sale of Chelsea

The Russian owner of the English football club Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, wants to sell the Champions League winner. The proceeds should benefit the victims of the Ukraine war via a foundation.

On the day of Roman Abramovich’s retirement, Chelsea just managed to avert the end of the FA Cup. Joker Timo Werner scored to make it 2-2 at second division side Luton Town and set up the winning goal. Thomas Tuchel then took a position on the sale of the club.

Dhe sport had faded into the background on what was to be a memorable night for the club, and the team just managed to make up for that in the FA Cup Round of 16. Thanks to goalscorer Timo Werner, Chelsea avoided embarrassment in the English Cup and reached the quarter-finals with a lot of effort.

Shortly after Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich announced that he wanted to sell the club, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team won 3-2 (1-2) at second division club Luton Town on Wednesday evening.

Coach Tuchel reacted cautiously to the club owner’s announcement after the win. “Hopefully” not much will change for the team in the short term, said the German football world coach. “Maybe it won’t change anything. We’ll do what we can to block out the noise and stay focused, which isn’t always easy.”

Werner brings Chelsea back into the game

Abramovich had previously announced on Wednesday that he would initiate the sale of the Champions League winner. The proceeds should benefit the victims of the Ukraine war via a foundation, the 55-year-old oligarch said in a letter on the Blues website.

“I think every decision he makes is the right decision. It’s his decision, his club, and it’s not up to me to comment on that,” said Tuchel, who only got the message on the evening of the game: “Maybe I found out a little earlier than you did, but it was always still very, very shortly before kick-off.” It is “big news”, big news, “let’s wait for the best and see what the day brings”.

His patience had also been tried during the 90 minutes. A day after Middlesbrough’s surprising win over Tottenham (1-0), Reece Burke (2nd minute) and Harry Cornick (40th) gave the underdog twice the lead. Saul Niguez (27) scored Chelsea’s interim equalizer against the sixth-placed in the Championship in the first half.

A German brought the favorite back into play. After a long pass, German international striker Werner (68th) deliberately pushed the ball past substitute Luton keeper Harry Isted to make it 2-2. Ten minutes later, Werner put on the decisive goal for strike partner Romelu Lukaku (78th) from the right side. Last year Chelsea lost 1-0 to Leicester City in the FA Cup final.
