Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers – that hasn’t worked out yet. After the franchise failed to find a buyer for the point guard by the trade deadline, media reports say the Lakers will try again in the summer.
Like Jake Fischer from Bleacher Report reports, there is interest on both sides in finding a new team for Westbrook. However, since the guard (if he pulls his player option) will collect $ 47 million in the coming season, this endeavor remains difficult.
But since it’s an expiring contract, the Lakers could have a little more luck this time. For the 32-year-old, only the here and now counts at the moment. According to Fischer, Westbrook gave a “passionate” speech in the dressing room before the All-Star Break, saying that everything should be weighed up together, and the former All-Star in Washington is said to have motivated his teammates in a similar way. However, the Lakers have lost four out of five games after the All-Star Game.
But it’s not just Westbrook’s future in LA that seems uncertain, head coach Frank Vogel and GM Rob Pelinka are said to be worried. Vogel in particular is hardly given any chances within the league that he will continue to look after the Lakers in the coming season, instead the franchise should already be looking for a well-known successor.
The mixed situation looks a little different at Pelinka, who is said to be not particularly popular with his GM colleagues in the league, but continues to enjoy the support of those responsible (Rambis family line, owner Jeanie Buss).
