The reigning champions of Paraguay’s National League, Félix Pérez Cardozo, are ramping up their training regimen in planning for a momentous occasion: their inaugural appearance in the 2022 south American Women’s Club League. The tournament, set to commence on April 21st, marks a meaningful milestone for the team adn Paraguayan women’s basketball.

The initial stage of the competition will culminate on May 14th, followed by the quarterfinals, scheduled from May 26th to June 4th. The championship will be decided during the Final Four, slated for June 17th and 18th.

Félix Pérez Cardozo secured their spot in this prestigious regional tournament by clinching the 2021 national League title, defeating the formidable Atlético Ciudad Nueva in a thrilling final. The team boasts a potent blend of seasoned veterans, led by the experienced Martha Peralta, and promising young talent.

A Continental Showdown

Currently,thirteen clubs have confirmed their participation in the 2022 South American Women’s Club League. Representing Argentina are Berazategui, Quimsa, and Tomás de Rocamora. Uruguay will be fielding Defensor and Malvín, while Ecuador will be represented by Societá Sportiva Bocca and Santa María. Brazil’s Sodie Doces, Chile’s Sportiva Italiana, Bolivia’s Carl AZ, Venezuela’s Fundación DANZ, and a team from Colombia round out the impressive lineup.

This year’s tournament holds particular importance as it follows two consecutive cancellations in 2020 and 2021, mirroring the disruptions faced by the men’s competition.the last edition of the men’s tournament, held in 2019, saw Botafogo emerge victorious. The 2022 edition promises to be a fiercely contested affair, with Félix Pérez Cardozo aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage.

It’s a good foundation, but the South American league

is another level entirely.The game is faster, more physical, and tactically more complex.

Do you think that break will have an impact on the competition?

Natalia:

It’s definitely going to be a factor. Teams haven’t had consistent international exposure, and there might be some rust to shake off. But on the flip side, it’s created a fresh hunger to compete, and I expect to see some intense games.
