Ajax will not appoint Jordi Cruijff as a successor to Marc Overmars in the short term, it says General Newspaper upon inquiry within the club. It was previously stated that the Amsterdammers would have already polled Johan Cruijff’s son.
‘Total nonsense’, the AD writes based on sources within Ajax. In this way, the reports of domestic and foreign media are invalidated. It seems more likely that the club will not appoint an Overmars successor in the coming weeks or months.
What does that mean for the continuity of the club? ‘For the time being, the honors are being held internally, with technical manager Gerry Hamstra and general manager Edwin van der Sar, assisted by financial director Susan Lenderink, playing an important role. Together with head coach Erik ten Hag, they must manage current contract matters, shape the selection for next season and prevent new, fatal slips.’
Ajax has to work
In any case, there are many tasks for the technical management in the coming months. The club will be very keen to keep Erik ten Hag on board during the coming summer. After all, a departure of Overmars and Ten Hag within a few months seems difficult to absorb.
In addition, a number of Ajax contracts are expiring. Noussair Mazraoui, who is in the spotlight of the European top, is leaving and Ryan Gravenberch also seems to be on his way to the exit. His contract expires a summer later and so the club has to sell him in order to leave him with a transfer fee. Furthermore, the contracts of André Onana, Zakaria Labyad and Danilo Pereira will expire during the coming summer, while Brian Brobbey will in principle return to RB Leipzig.
