There was a time when the actor had a baseball-sized bald spot on his head. He now has more hair than he did back then – and he’s surprised himself.
Matthew McConaughey (52) has managed to regrow his hair after it started to fall out badly in the 1990s.
In an interview with “LADBible” he explained: “With stuff like ‘The Wedding Planner’ you see it, I lost it.” One picture from 2000 even shows a baseball-sized bald spot on the back of his head, the actor said.
But as McConaughey reports in his biography “Greenlights”, he managed to stimulate hair growth again. To do this, he shaved his entire head and rubbed a topical ointment into his scalp for ten minutes a day. “I was very committed,” he assured LADBible. “No Propecia, no nothing. It was just manual labor.”
More hair than before
However, he did not expect it to work so well: “It’s a big mystery,” says McConaughey. “All I can tell you guys is it’s back. I have more hair now than I had in 1999.” However, a hair transplant has nothing to do with this.
He had heard that a doctor at an international hair transplant conference had claimed he was responsible for McConaughey’s full head of hair. That had already led to another doctor wanting to grab his hair: “Can I look at your hair? Can I feel and see it for a moment?” He is said to have asked – and then was very surprised that it was not transplants at all.
