The French women’s team knows its opponents for the first round of the next World Cup which will take place in Sydney from September 22 to October 1. In Group B, it will be opposed to Australia, at home, Canada (the 3rd and 4th nations in the world), Japan, Nigeria and Serbia. The opposition will be particularly tough since Japan had beaten France at the last Olympic Games, Serbia did so in the Euro final and Nigeria won against Les Bleues during the qualifying tournament in mid-February. It will be necessary to finish in one of the first four places to qualify for the quarter-finals (for which a new draw will take place).
Group A will be less dense despite the presence of the scarecrow of the competition, the United States, three-time defending champions, as well as Belgium and China. The rest of the group with South Korea, Bosnia and Herzegovina and a team to be determined seems more affordable. The team to be determined, after the exclusion of Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine, will be known shortly.
