BAt the Bundesliga club Mainz 05, 19 people were infected with the corona virus. The club announced this on Thursday evening. Those affected – players, coaches and team employees – are fully immunized, according to a statement from the club.
The training planned for the afternoon has been canceled and all infected people have gone into domestic isolation. The people of Mainz had already caught a violent corona wave at the beginning of the season. The ninth in the table should play against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
We are in close contact with the Mainz health department and the German Football League (DFL) about how to proceed. The players who tested negative completed individual training on Thursday.
Corona outbreak also at RW Essen
Recently there had also been a corona outbreak in the regional league. Rot-Weiss Essen, leaders of the west season, has to accept another game cancellation. As announced by the Essen team, the encounter against SV Lippstadt on Saturday will also be canceled.
The Essen game scheduled for Wednesday was canceled on Tuesday at RW Ahlen. The reason: A double-digit number of Essen players are in corona quarantine, the majority of them are infected with the virus. Essen currently has fewer than 16 operational players available. Training operations will even be suspended for the coming days.
