Mock Draft NFL 2022 – Versión 1.0

Mock Draft NFL 2022 – Versión 1.0

With less than a month to go before Super Bowl LVI is over, welcome to Draft season. This is the first version of me Mock Draft NFL 2022.

Before we begin, I would like to clarify that this simulation is based on what I would do if I were in the shoes of each of the NFL teams in the first round of this event. I hope this exercise will help you get to know your prospects better.

NOTE: This simulation is designed based on the following premises:

  • Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray and Kirk Cousins return to their teams,
  • Deshaun Watson is not returning to the NFL.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo is traded to the Commanders for the 2022 second round.
Selection 1

Jacksonville Jaguars

Adrian Hutchinson
EDGE, Michigan
The Jaguars need the best prospect in the entire Draft and that is Aidan Hutchinson, an agile, explosive and strong player who is going to drastically improve the Jaguars team, alongside an inconsistent Josh Allen.
Selection 2

Detroit Lions

Kayvon Thibodeaux
EDGE, Oregon
Despite the doubts that have arisen around Thibodeaux in recent days, we cannot doubt the quality he has when it comes to pressuring the QB, with 23.1% of win rate.
Selection 3

Houston Texans

Kyle Hamilton
S, Our Lady
There is no other player who enters the category of playmaker like this. The Texans need to start somewhere their rebuilding process with a modern player is incredible.
Selection 4

New York Jets

Ahmad Gardner
CB, Cincinnati
this is a great fit for Robert Saleh’s scheme, who enjoys playing press coverage in certain game situations and in 2021 was unable to do so due to the lack of a strong CB. Gardner has never allowed a TD in his career.
Selection 5

New York Giants

Evan Neal
T, Alabama
The Giants need immediate protection to help Daniel Jones, who has one of the worst pass-blocking units. In 2020 Neal played RT and he did it in a big way, allowing only one hit to the QB, so they could put him on the other side of their Andrew Thomas diamond and have a decent offensive line.
Selection 6

Carolina Panthers

Charles Cross
T, Mississippi State
They bring in Cross to turn the worst offensive line into something that can work for the QB and give him a better situation than he currently has. Cross is a talented player, a 5-star recruit who has played more snaps than all the tackles this round.
Selection 7

New York Giants (vía Chicago Bears)

George Karlaftis
DE, Purdue
Once they fixed the offensive line, they have to fix the defensive line, which was the fifth least pressured. George Karlaftis is the correct answer to correct this.
Selection 8

Atlanta Falcons

Derek Stingley Jr.
CB, LSU
With so many needs, the Falcons can afford to bet on one of the most talented but also riskiest players in the 2022 class. If it pans out, Terrell and Stingley could be the foundation of the Atlanta rebuild.
Selection 9

Denver Broncos

Ikem Ekwonu
T, North Carolina State
Since the Broncos couldn’t land any elite QBs, they will have to rely heavily on their great running game with Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon. Selecting the most dominant tackle in this regard to replace Bobby Massie is the ideal decision.
Selection 10

New York Jets (vía Seattle Seahawks)

Drake London
WR, USC
The Jets take the best WR in this entire class, at 6’6 tall he has everything to be the next Mike Evans and dominate this WR corps. The Jets want to give Wilson their full support and this is the way.

TRADE ALERT: The Steelers trade their 20th pick and their 2023 second-round pick to the Washington Commanders for the 11th pick.

Selection 11

Pittsburgh Steelers

Desmond Ridder
QB, Cincinnati
The Steelers probably prefer Willis over Ridder, but as you can read in my article, Ridder is the QB of the class for me. In a situation like the Steelers is where the Cincinnati QB would work best, so there is no better fit mutually.
Selection 12

Minnesota Vikings

Trent McDuffie
CB, Washington
McDuffie should have gone higher, and taking him at 12 is a steal for the Vikings, who badly need a CB who can have an immediate effect on the team. Both as a person and as a player, McDuffie is one of the best in the class.
Selection 13

Cleveland Browns

Jameson Williams
WR, Alabama
If there’s one thing Baker Mayfield hasn’t had in his four-year career, it’s a speedster who’s always open. ACL injury is becoming more and more commonplace in the NFL and players are coming back better than ever, so it’s not a concern with this prospect.
Selection 14

Baltimore Ravens

Tyler Linderbaum
C, Iowa
This pick is tied to two factors: 1) the Ravens are letting go of Bradley Bozeman, their starting C; 2) They’ll try to open up their running game with JK Dobbins and use the outside zone more, which is where Linderbaum shines.
Selection 15

Philadelphia Eagles (vía Miami Dolphins):

Chris Olave
WR, Ohio State
Possibly the most confident and NFL-ready WR of all of 2022, the Eagles want to bring in such a player after several years of disappointing WRs. DeVonta Smith along with Olave is as explosive as it gets.
Selection 16

Philadelphia Eagles (vía Indianapolis Colts)

Nakobe Dean
LB, Georgia
The Eagles aren’t a team that’s used to drafting LBs in the first round, they haven’t drafted one there since 1979. With three picks inside the Top 20 they have to address their weakness in that area with an incredible LB in coverage and agility.
Selection 17

Los Angeles Chargers

Andrew Booth Jr.
CB, Clemson
It’s nice to talk about fits to schemes, and Booth Jr. is all of that to Brandon Staley’s scheme, as he adjusts to wherever they put him and is an athlete every team wants on their defense. The fact that Chris Harris is his CB1 is certainly troubling.
Selection 18

New Orleans Saints

Malik Willis
QB, Liberty
The Saints would have been ecstatic if Ridder dropped them because he’s a much better fit for the system this team wants to run. The fact that Willis gets to this point and that they can develop him for a year and build the offense for him, it’s perfect.
Selection 19

Philadelphia Eagles

David Ojabo
EDGE, Michigan
By having three picks, the Eagles may be more comfortable taking players with some missing developmental process. Ojabo has only played 600 snaps and recently learned what a QB spike. They can develop him behind Josh Sweat and Taron Jackson.
Selection 20

Washington Commanders (vía Pittsburgh Steelers)

Devin Lloyd
LB, Utah
Devin Lloyd at No. 20 feels like a steal for the Commanders, who continue to athlete-pack their defense with an incredible player in the running game to play all over the place and stand out.
Selection 21

New England Patriots

Garrett Wilson
WR, Ohio State
If Wilson falls to the Patriots until the 21st, it would be impossible not to take him and gun down Mac Jones. It’s never a bad decision to have a talented receiver.
Selection 22

Las Vegas Raiders

Bernhard Raimann
T, Central Michigan
One of my favorite athletes in the entire Draft, Raimann was formerly a TE, so he has electric speed for a guy his size. He only allowed three pressures. Raiders take a step to make Derek Carr happy.
Selection 23

Arizona Cardinals

Zion Johnson
G, Boston College
The best guard in the class, the one best prepared to be put in the starting lineup and never removed from there, arrives to fix the Cardinals’ serious offensive line problem, which in large part led to their elimination in 2021.
Selection 24

Dallas Cowboys

Devonte Wyatt
DT, Georgia
Although it’s not a valuable position, it’s one the Cowboys need even though they don’t have many of them. Wyatt is the best defensive tackle in the class with speed and versatility that are hard to find.
Selection 25

Buffalo Bills

Travon Walker
EDGE, Georgia
Teams can never have enough EDGE, that’s one of the most important lessons we’ve learned in recent years. Walker is giant and fast, similar to Gregory Rousseau.
Selection 26

Tennessee Titans

Jermaine Johnson II
EDGE, Florida State
A major risers of the Draft comes to reinforce a pass rush that was too weak in 2021 with an experiment on Bud Dupree and it just didn’t work.
Selection 27

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Treylon Burks
WR, Arkansas
With the departures of Antonio Brown and possibly Chris Godwin, they need to bring in another electric WR who can win after the catch. That’s Treylon Burks.
Selection 28

Green Bay Packers

Kenyon Green
G, Texas
The Packers further strengthen their offensive line, which turned out to be very good despite all the injuries they suffered. They have no real needs if Rodgers and Adams come back, so they can go either way.
Selection 29

Miami Dolphins

Trevor Penning
T, Northern Iowa
A player this aggressive and strong is what the Dolphins have needed for several years, Penning is a power player who is going to change this offensive line from day 1.
Selection 30

Kansas City Chiefs

Jalen Pitre
S, Baylor
Of my favorite players in the entire Draft; he leaves in the 30th and to the Chiefs, where it is impossible to let him go. Pitre can play well both in the slot, as in the box, as well as deep.
Selection 31

Cincinnati Bengals

Jordan Davis
DT, Georgia
As much as we would have loved for some of the quality OLs to go down, they can’t make a reach for those who remain, who are not so talented. Instead Davis is going to immediately improve the defense against the running game, where they let Larry Ogunjobi go.
Selection 32

Detroit Lions (vía Los Angeles Rams)

Sam Howell
QB, North Carolina
As the final pick in the Draft, Howell makes all the sense in the world, with his tremendous arm, for the Lions, who can create healthy competition with Jared Goff and let Howell learn for a while.
