US football mourns Katie Meyer († 22). The goalkeeper of the women’s team at the famous Stanford University (California) was found dead in a building on the university campus. Nothing is known about the cause of death.
Meyer, who also captained her Stanford Cardinals, was one of the team’s absolute performers and was instrumental in winning the 2019 NCAA College Championship.
Her celebration after a saved penalty in the final against North Carolina went viral at the time.

“Katie has been a shining light to so many on the field and in our community,” Stanford said in a statement. “Please join us in expressing our deepest condolences to her parents and sisters. We also want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Katie’s friends, housemates, classmates, teammates, faculty and coaches.”
Counseling centers have been set up throughout the campus for grieving students.
