After the job separation between Marian Vajda and Novak Djokovic, the Slovak was the one who came out to speak to give the reasons for this break. In the middle Sport.Sk the former World No. 34 provided details.
“We officially agreed after the ATP Finals in Turin, although things would not have gone well before after the US Open final against Medvedev. Novak failed to win his 21st Grand Slam and the Grand Slam in the same year. He had promised me that he would come to Bratislava to talk to me and that somehow we would end everything well. But there were difficult times and finally he invited me to Turin where we did close it. It was not respectful that the decision was aired with a rather stormy December and his mistaken trip to Australia afterwards,” Vajda told the media in his country.
He then expanded: “Things had not been going smoothly since July. At the US Open he had run out of much strength after losing almost all of it at the Olympic Games. I was not in favor of his participation in the Games, the deadlines were very limited , little time to prepare and the great mental and physical effort. I understood his goal of course to give Serbia a gold. But there was a separation. And then came the issue of non-vaccination, he would not play many tournaments as a non-vaccinated player and he already has a powerful team with Goran Ivanisevic. After evaluating all the circumstances, we mutually decided to end our professional cooperation.”
To finish, the Slovak spoke about his professional future. About that he said: “After so many years of travelling, I would like to rest and spend time at home. But I know I won’t stay there forever. I would like to experience something new later on. Some new challenge with another player, although the bar is very high. The best coaches are not always lucky with their pupils. Lendl triumphed with Murray but he didn’t fit with Zverev or Agassi got with Djokovic as well.”
