Agencies, Mexico City.- The International Badminton Federation (BWF) announced the cancellation of all tournaments planned in Russia and Belarus and the non-adjudication of more competitions to both countries.
The BWV thus supported the position of the IOC and determined that in all its events the flags of Russia and Belarus will not be displayed, nor will the anthems of both countries be heard until further notice.
In a statement made public, the organization conveyed its concern about the invasion of Russia to Ukraine and after showing its support for the Ukrainian Badminton Federation, assured that it will coordinate special support to the Ukrainian community of this sport where possible.
“The BWF will continue to monitor the situation closely and will proactively consult partners in the international sports movement on other options for taking action against the governments of Russia and Belarus,” it added.
The BWF also joined the international sports movement in calling on the parties to stop the acts of violence and restore peace.
