MADRID, 4 (EUROPA PRESS)
Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty, number one in the world, has announced that she will not play the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, both in the WTA 1,000 category, because she has not been able to recover physically after her victory at the Australian Open.
“Unfortunately, my body did not recover in the way that I expected after the Australian Open and I have not been able to prepare properly for Indian Wells and Miami,” the Aussie tennis player said in a statement.
In this way, Barty will not be able to win his third consecutive title in Miami. “I do not consider myself to be at the level necessary to win these tournaments and as a result I have decided to withdraw from both. I love them both and I’m sad I’m not out there competing, but my focus is on getting my body right,” he said.
On the other hand, the Australian explained that she hoped to be fit for the Billie Jean King Cup tie that Australia will play at home against Slovakia on April 15. “My goal is to represent my country in April. After missing out on the BJK Cup last year, I can’t wait to go back to green and gold,” she confessed.
