Toms Skujiņš from the “Trek – Segafredo” cycling team took 16th place in the “Strade Bianche” one-day competition (UCI cat. 1.UWT) in Italy on Saturday, but Krists Neilands from the “Israel Premier Tech” team finished 57th. In this competition, athletes covered a distance of 184 kilometers in a hilly area with 11 sections of gravel road with a total length of 63 kilometers, which thinned the riders.
The victory was won by Slovenian Tadej Pogačar from UAE Team Emirates, who finished in four hours, 47 minutes and 49 seconds. He was 37 seconds ahead of Movistar’s Spanish driver Alejandro Valverdi and 46 seconds ahead of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s Danish Casper Asgren.
Skujiņš took the 16th place in the very strong company, going all the way to all 18 top teams in the world, just two minutes behind Pogačar. For this achievement he earned 20 world ranking points. Neiland was also at one point in the world rankings, losing eight minutes and 35 seconds to the Slovenian. Of the 147 cyclists who started, 90 finished. The 16th Strade Bianche cycling took place.
