FSV De Feijenoorder publishes stadium survey outcome

FSV De Feijenoorder has conducted an extensive survey among the supporters. The central question was whether the supporters wanted modernization of De Kuip or a new stadium. Of the more than three thousand supporters who participated, the vast majority are in favor of modernization. The survey was conducted by independent research agency MWM2.

The following issues were central to the survey:
● What do supporters prefer: new construction or modernization of De Kuip?
● What is important for supporters in stadium development?
● Does stadium development influence the visiting and spending behavior of supporters?
● What is the support among supporters for new construction or modernisation?
● What do supporters expect from supporters’ association FSV De Feijenoorder?

The answer
There is a clear preference of 63% for the modernization of De Kuip. Especially among young people, women, frequent visitors and season ticket holders. Reasons given are the unique atmosphere, the history, the Feyenoord identity and the iconic place. It is also feared that new construction will cost too much and that this will be at the expense of the players budget.

A quarter of the participants would rather see new construction. This is especially true for older members, infrequent visitors, and non-cardholders. The reasons given are: the growth of Feyenoord, future-oriented thinking, international participation, a limited lifespan of a modernized Kuip and the ability to use a new stadium for multiple purposes. In addition, good sightlines, hygienic sanitary facilities and fanatical supporters along the field are expected in the new stadium.

Supporters and opponents agree that stadium visits should remain affordable. 89% of those surveyed also want a comparison between the two plans for both modernization and new construction, something that is not happening now. The following aspects should be central: matters that help Feyenoord further, a cost/benefit analysis, maintaining the atmosphere and lifespan.

FSV De Feijnoorder
Supporters also want FSV De Feijenoorder to continue to represent the interests of supporters with the obligation to inform members about the status of developments in the stadium file. The supporters’ association must be able to participate fully in the stadium plans and is seen as the best discussion partner to represent the interests of supporters. However, FSV De Feijenoorder can show a more active attitude in this.

Supporters association calls for unity
FSV De Feijenoorder has asked Feyenoord to embrace the research results and take them seriously. The club is on a course that does not match what supporters want. To a greater or lesser extent, all the options developed so far barely cover the needs of supporters. Pushing through on the basis of time pressure imposed by the municipality will not lead to a result that supporters will feel affiliated with, with all the associated consequences. The future of the club is at stake. The best decision is to slow down and go back to the drawing board for something that does meet the needs of those who ultimately have to fund it: supporters. The supporters’ association calls for unity among supporters.

Stadium Affairs Expert Group
As a result of the research results, FSV De Feijenoorder has decided to form a special expert group on Stadium Affairs. Are you a Feyenoord supporter who knows something about stadium development, are you an expert in your field, driven and do you want to contribute to the best for Feyenoord?
