the british player Andy Murray surprised by giving her relationship a third chance with Ivan Lendl as his new coach. With him on the bench he won his first Grand Slam trophy. Murray, who is currently ranked 84th in the ATP rankings, wants to bring back the taste of victory. In an interview with Moselle Open, the British explained what Ivan Lendl can bring him, as well as highlighting which Next Gen players he looks up to, with Carlos Alcaraz among them.
Ivan Lendl, new coach
“Ivan was considered someone mentally very strong, he didn’t show many emotions on the track. Talking to him about how he felt before Grand Slam finals, he used to get very nervous. He told me that he sometimes vomited before going out on the track, but people saw him and thought he was quite relaxed. It’s good to know that that’s what everyone feels, even people like him, who achieved great things in the sport, feel that pressure, those nerves before important games. He was a winner, that’s what you want around you. In sports you want to win. He understood what it takes to achieve great results.”
New generation
“I like to see Tsitsipas, I think he has a great game. I also like to see Alcaraz. He is a bit younger, but I think he is going to be great for tennis. I think he is a top player. I like Musetti on clay, I enjoy watching his game.
I know he is not that young, but I also really like to see Medvedev, he has a different style of play. He’s unorthodox, he has weird technique, he doesn’t seem to play as well as he does. He is incredibly smart on the track.”
Your memory of Metz
“I remember losing the final against Tommy Robredo. The driver who took me back to the hotel with my team reminded me today that my coach was very angry with me after he lost the game. We argued a lot and I ended up getting out of the car and walking to the hotel.”
Your most special victory
“The Olympic Games was the first major competition I won. It was a unique experience. I enjoyed it a lot. After winning Wimbledon I was relieved after the match. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked.”
