Jürgen Klopp is planning his departure from Liverpool – and football
Jürgen Klopp is on the road to success with Liverpool – and is still thinking about the end. After his current contract expires, his plan could be over. If he doesn’t change his mind.
After the end of the contract, it’s over: German soccer coach Jürgen Klopp plans to leave Liverpool FC in the summer of 2024. “The plan at the moment is for me to do it until 2024, and then it’ll be: thank you very much!” Klopp said on Friday. The 54-year-old, while not committing himself 100%, did hint that he could take a break from football. “I love what I do. But I’ve said it a few times: there has to be something else in the world than just thinking about very talented, good-looking and fantastically nice footballers.”
At the moment he is still “full of energy” for his job. “But we have to make sure it stays that way,” said the Liverpool coach, who won the Champions League and first championship with the Reds in 30 years. “You don’t want to end up sitting around tired and thinking: Why is everyone interested in what’s going on out there? I don’t care at all.”
Klopp sees success after his departure
Having lifted the League Cup last week, Liverpool have three more competitions in the running for a total of four titles this season. According to Klopp, who has been at Anfield for six and a half years, the club will continue to be successful in the future because they have hired the right people. “These people, of whom we have a lot here at the moment, will make sure things go well,” said Klopp, “even when I’m gone – whenever that will be.”
