Top favorite Pidcock misses Strade Bianche, Van Baarle in Paris-Nice and Carapaz in Tirreno

INEOS Grenadiers went for a win in Strade Bianche. The British multimillion-dollar formation had a big favorite on board with Tom Pidcock, but the young Brit unfortunately has to put an end to his ‘favorite course’. Pidcock has a stomach virus.

The all-rounder drove a remarkable opening weekend, a few weeks after his cyclocross world title in America. The young Briton participated in the races in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, although a good result was not in it. In Strade Bianche he found a course that was perhaps even more made for him, he himself called it his ‘favorite course’. ‘I start to win’, it sounded ambitious HLN.

Last year Pidcock finished fifth in his first participation in Strade Bianche and so we could expect something, especially now that Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert are not participating. “Tom is racing at a level where he can win the Strade Bianche,” said INEOS sports director Matteo Tosatto. “With Narváez and Rodriguez we are building a strong team, but given his background from the cross, there is a good chance that Tom will be the leader.”

Those plans can go in the trash. INEOS Grenadiers will start with six riders, including Richard Carapaz and men of form Carlos Rodriguez and Jhonatan Narváez. Pidcock will have to watch the match on television. The selection for Paris-Nice was also announced in a minor mood. There Adam Yates and Daniel Felipe Martínez basically go for a good classification, with the quick Ethan Hayter for daily success. Dylan van Baarle is also present.

The team has also announced its selection for the Tirreno-Adriatico. Richard Carapaz and Filippo Ganna are the forward pawns and are supported by the likes of Richie Porte, Tao Geoghegan Hart and Jhonatan Narváez.
