Latvian boxer Mairis Briedis will fight against Australian Jay Opetay on May 11, the deer promoter company “Wasserman” reports on Friday.
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) and The Ring magazine’s first heavyweight (up to 90.7 kilograms) champion Briedis is set to defend his title on May 11 in the Australian city of Gold Coast against Australian Opatija. The fight was originally scheduled for April 6, but was postponed later because Briedis was infected with Covid-19.
At the end of September 2020, the deer won the Cuban Juniel Dorticus in the final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) in Munich and won the Muhammad Ali trophy, as well as the IBF Champion Belt in the first heavyweight and The Ring Champion Belt. “I look forward to going to Australia to defend my titles,” said Briedis. “I know my opponent is a good boxer. He is a left-wing professional who has had a good amateur career. I will do my best in the training camp and go to Australia to show my best boxing. ”
After a break of more than a year, the deer fought in the fight against the German Artur Mann in October, winning the third round with a technical knockout. 37-year-old Briedis has won 28 victories in his professional boxer career, 20 of whom have been killed. He suffered one loss in the first season semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) in Riga against Ukraine’s Alexander Usik.
Opetaya has spent 21 fights in a professional boxer career and has won all of them, but almost all fights took place in Australia. He holds two second-ranked belts: the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global Champion title and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia and Oceania Champion title. He also represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics.
