With the victory, Míchel’s team extended their lead over the seventh-placed team to three points. Michel’s men came out very strong and immediately began to arrive in danger. Femenías had to intervene to deflect a header from Baena and then Stuani shot wide. In the third, Girona opened the scoring thanks to a great volley from Baena from the front of the area. Girona have been superior until Oviedo has played with five defenders. From here, the Asturians have taken a small step forward and Jimmy has made Juan Carlos shine on the only visiting occasion of the first half.
In the second half, it was difficult to find the tone until Baena sent a slate assist to Stuani to beat Femenías to make the second. With 2-0 the game seemed to close, but only three minutes later, Borja Sánchez took advantage of a great pass from Joni Montiel and, taking advantage of the passivity of the local defense, reduced the difference.
The last few minutes have been heartbreaking. Girona has claimed a penalty on Arnau that the referee did not see in the addition and that has ignited the spirits of an audience that, seeing the insistence of Oviedo, has only breathed with the final whistle.
