Harry Maguire was highlighted after Manchester United were crushed by Manchester City 1-4. The Red Devils defender was teased to help create three goals for The Citizens.
The Manchester derby took place in week 28 of the English Premier League, between City vs. MU at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (6/3/2022). The hosts looked fierce and won 4-1.
Kevin De Bruyne scored the first goal in the fifth minute. Jadon Sancho had equalized the score in the 22nd minute.
However, City can make three additional goals. De Bruyne recorded his brace in the 28th minute, plus two more goals from Riyad Mahrez in the 68th and 90+2 minutes, respectively.
Manchester United’s defeat made Maguire highlighted. Because, the 29-year-old player was considered to be performing poorly, even considered ‘helping’ the creation of City’s three goals.
In De Bruyne’s first goal, Maguire failed to keep the City midfielder free in the penalty box. Then, De Bruyne’s shot failed to be blocked properly, because the ball could pass through Maguire’s leg before entering De Gea’s goal.
Then on the second goal, Maguire again showed a bad way of defending. The world’s most expensive defender failed to block the ball from vomiting by Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea after holding back Manchester City’s Phil Foden kick.
The vomit ball was not thrown, instead it passed through his leg again, so it could be swept away by Bernardo Silva. Had to hold back Bernardo’s kick, but the ball vomit could be continued by De Bruyne to become City’s second goal.
Maguire again highlighted for the creation of City’s third goal. Riyad Mahrez’s strike from the edge of the box hit Maguire’s feet slightly, so the ball changed direction and De Gea failed to anticipate.
Opta noted, Maguire made 47 touches throughout the game. He passed 35 times, made 2 tackles, 6 clearances and 8 duels, fouled twice and won a foul, and got a yellow card.
The defeat to Manchester City made Manchester United slipped to fifth place in the Premier League standings with 47 points from 28 matches, overtaken by Arsenal, who won 3-2 over Watford. The Gunners move up to fourth with 48 points, having played just 25 times.
