The R&A has announced an initial 12-player squad vying for selection from the eight-member Great Britain and Ireland team to play the USA in the 42nd Curtis Cup at the Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania this summer.

The biennial match will be played June 10-12, with GB&I aiming to bounce back from the 12-8 loss to the USA in the previous match, which was played last year in Conwy after being postponed to 2020. due to Covid-19.

GB&I Captain Elaine Ratcliffe said: “We have selected a very talented group of players for our Curtis Cup squad and will be monitoring their form and results over the coming months as we look to select the strongest possible side to play for Merion. Despite the result, there were really encouraging signs from the team’s performance at Conwy and with several of the players returning to join this year’s squad, there is a solid foundation to build on as we prepare for the match in June.”

Roehampton Club’s Annabell Fuller is hoping to be selected for her third Curtis Cup appearance and will join the squad with five of her 2020 team-mates. Hannah Darling, reigning R&A Women’s Amateur Champion, Scotland’s Louise Duncan, Amateur Champion Women’s 2021, Ireland’s Lauren Walsh and English duo Charlotte Heath and Caley McGinty have been named.

Players looking to earn their first Curtis Cup team selection include Farnham’s Lottie Woad, who won the Girls’ and Women’s Order of Merit in England last year, while Northern Ireland’s Beth Coulter and champion English women’s amateur 2020 Emily Price are also on the sidelines to make their debut.
