From the softness of the banks of the Loire to the Sri Lankan coast, there is only one step or almost…
Maud Chevalier and Noémie Chaumonttwo women from Nantes will take part in the Raid of the Amazonsan adventure raid 100% feminine. For the 20th edition of this solidarity race, participants will discover and Sri Lanka.
Meeting with a duo in a hurry to live an extraordinary experience.
A human and sporting adventure
Next Sunday, March 27, Noémie and Maud, friends for more than 30 years will fly to the island country in the Indian Ocean. Until April 2, the two friends will exceed their limits in the middle of Sri Lankan nature.
A decision carefully considered for more than a year and a half.
“With the confinements, I needed to have a human and sporting adventure,” says Maud.
What is the Amazon Raid?
Created in 2001 by Alexandre Debanne, the Amazon raid is the first 100% female raid. Divided into teams of two or three, the participants perform sports events in the morning (canoeing, running, mountain biking, archery, etc.) in the heart of nature, then in the afternoon “the Amazons” meet the population. local during human challenge. For this 20th edition, more than 400 adventurers have an appointment in Sri Lanka. From March 10 to 23 for the first half, from March 27 to April 6 for the other.
Wanting to do it with one of her friends, Maud contacts Noémie. Attracted by the project and the trip, Noémie does not hesitate for a second.
“We wanted to do some trials in the middle of nature while meeting the local population”, describes the volleyball enthusiast.
After the sports events of the morning, the participants of the raid will meet the Sri Lankans in the afternoon.
If the challenge is eminently sporting, it is also human.
Nantes residents have decided to support two associations: the association Debra which helps children with a rare genetic skin disease and the association Defeat Lysosomal Diseases.
These two associations are close to my heart because my little nephews are sick.
A complementary duo
Near the Indian Ocean, the duo relies on their proximity to enjoy the adventure. Delighted to share this experience, the two friends admire each other.
“Noémie is persevering, physically and mentally strong. She is very conscientious in the approach to her preparation,” describes Maud.
“Maud is a born organizer, she is super generous and pulls people up,” continues Noémie in turn.
The two Amazons (note: the nickname of the participants in the raid) decided to call their team “Mano Nella Mano”, hand in hand in Italian. A name symbolizing their unwavering friendly bond.
“We wanted to keep the “Ma” of Maud and the “No” of Noémie”, specifies Noémie.
Physical preparation and archery
Since their registration, Noémie and Maud have scrupulously followed a physical preparation concocted by Stevan, Noémie’s companion.
A training focused on cardio but some sessions are dedicated to raid events such as archery with the club des Archers of Coueron or canoeing, a discipline that is sometimes difficult to master.
“After a first quiet canoeing session in bright sunshine, we did a much less pleasant second in January with headwinds,” testifies Noémie.
“And there I moaned,” laughs Maud.
In the middle of the former island of Ceylon, the Mano Nella Mano team aims to “hold on to each event” while “representing well” their associations.
“If I have fun the raid will be successful,” says Maud.
For ten days, Noémie and Maud will therefore surpass themselves to live an “out of the ordinary” human experience. At the end of the raid, the two Nantes women will be joined in Sri Lanka by their family for a vacation. The opportunity to enjoy the country differently, but always hand in hand.
