Sebaâ Returns to Lead algerian Judo Federation
Samir Sebaâ is back at the helm of Algerian Judo, assuming the role of National technical Director (DTN) once again. [[1]] This follows the recent departure of Salim Boutebcha, who transitioned to a coaching position with Mouloudia Algiers.
Sebaâ,a sixth Dan black belt and prominent figure within the Ministry of Youth and Sports,previously held the DTN position from 2013 to 2017 under former president Messaoud mati. His return comes at a crucial juncture for Algerian Judo, with a packed international schedule on the horizon.
“The Algerian Judo Federation reached out to me on Friday,shortly after their meeting in Oran,and I was eager to accept this challenge,” Sebaâ stated. [[1]]
The national team is gearing up for a series of high-profile competitions, starting with the African Open in Tunis. This will be followed by tournaments in Algiers, Turkey, and Jordan, all serving as vital readiness for upcoming major events like the African Championships and the Mediterranean Games in Oran.
Looking ahead, Sebaâ has set his sights on developing a new generation of Algerian judo stars. “Our long-term goal is to cultivate a strong pool of young talent with the potential to excel on the international stage, particularly at the 2028 Olympics,” he declared. [[1]]

Samir Sebaâ: Thank you. It’s an honor to be back serving Algerian Judo. The sport holds a special place in my heart, and I’m eager to contribute to its continued success.
Your appointment comes at a critical juncture. The national team has a demanding international schedule ahead, starting with the African Open in Tunis. How do you plan to approach thes early competitions?
Sebaâ: Absolutely. We’re focusing on using these tournaments as stepping stones.The primary goal is to assess our athletes’ current performance levels against international competition, identify areas for advancement, and fine-tune our strategies for the bigger events like the African Championships and the Mediterranean Games.
Speaking of those major tournaments, many eyes will be on Algeria as the host nation for the Mediterranean Games in Oran. How are preparations coming along, and what are your expectations for the team’s performance?
Sebaâ: Hosting the Mediterranean Games is a tremendous prospect for Algerian Judo. We’re putting immense effort into ensuring our athletes are adequately prepared, both physically and mentally. The pressure will be on,but I’m confident our team will rise to the occasion. We aim for a strong medal haul and to showcase the talent and potential of Algerian Judo to the world.
You mentioned “talent and potential.” Your long-term vision is centered on developing a new generation of Algerian judo stars. How will your approach to youth development differ from previous years?
Sebaâ: Nurturing future champions is paramount. We’re establishing structured youth development programs,focusing on identifying talented youngsters from a young age and providing them with the necessary coaching,facilities,and support to hone their skills.
This includes organizing national and regional competitions,talent scouting programs,and strengthening our coaching infrastructure. We need to build a sustainable pipeline of talent to ensure the future of Algerian Judo.
There’s a growing sense of optimism surrounding Algerian Judo.Would you say that there’s a renewed sense of belief within the sport and the team?
Sebaâ: Absolutely. The passion for Judo runs deep in Algeria. We have a rich history in the sport, and the desire to succeed at the highest level is strong. With the right support and a focused approach, I firmly believe we can achieve great things on the international stage.
