Erick Rodríguez will retire in 2022

After a two-decade career in professional baseball, the man from Monterrey Erick Rodriguez will officially announce his retirement as an active player on April 22, the day on which the inaugural game of the 2022 Season of the Oaxacan Warriors in front of the Olmec of Tabasco.

Rodríguez debuted last summer as manager in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and is currently preparing to repeat at the helm of the Oaxacan team.

“It is my second year as manager, Last year I had to be manager-player but already announcing my retirement officially on the opening day I’m going to focus on being a manager”, declared Erick. “So I think I’m very happy and with a favorable experience for me and well, let’s keep working, let’s hope to God that things go well for us this year.”

Considered one of the greatest symbols in the history of the Warriors, Bishopric Little League-trained catcher he played 20 seasons, all with the Oaxaca camisole. In the winter he added 17 seasons, the last one with the Sultanes in Monterrey’s debut in the Pacific League.

Erick Rodríguez Martínez thanked the board of directors headed by Alfredo Harp Helú to repeat as manager of a team that will have a base of young players, and stressed that the center fielder, Carlos Figueroa, will be very helpful for the Warriors.

“You definitely know how the Guerreros organization has worked, they give young people a lot of opportunity and well, you comment on Carlos Figueroa, a young man with experience who comes to bring spark to the Guerreros,” said the catcher. “He was here in Monterrey in the winter, you knew him well, he is a kid who actually contributes a lot, both on the field of play and also in the clubhouse, so the arrival of Carlos for the organization will be important and considering him as a leadoff hitter ”.
