Badminton player from Antofagasta Benjamín Bahamóndez will represent Chile at the III South American Youth Games

The badminton player from Antofagasta and member of the Promesas Chile program, Benjamín Bahamóndez (17), will represent the region and the country in the III South American Youth Games, to be played between April 28 and May 8 in the city of Rosario, Argentina.

The Chilean Badminton Federation made official the summons of Benjamín to Team Chile in his capacity as U-19 national champion, an achievement obtained in the National held in December in Temuco and which crowned an excellent 2021 for the athlete, the year in which he held two concentrations international events, one in Denmark convened by the European Badminton Confederation and the other held in Brazil and which served as a prelude to the South American held in the state of Santa Catarina.

Faced with his participation in Rosario 2022, Benjamín Bahamóndez (17) acknowledges being “I am very happy, it will be my first experience in some games, it is something that I have waited for and have searched for a long time, I have trained and I have worked hard to achieve this nomination”.

The badminton competition in these III South American Youth Games will take place between May 5 and 8 at the Newell´s Indoor Stadium and Bahamóndez already affirms, “I’m preparing 100%, I’m full training and as always I’m making an effort.”

Regarding the preparation of Benjamín, the badminton technician of the Chile Promises Program, Susana Salinas, explained that “We are training in the Colegio San Luis gym six days a week between 3 and 4 hours and the Promesas Chile program provides us with all the material, so we are getting ready for this mega event that is so important.”

Along with expressing her satisfaction with Bahamóndez’s nomination for Rosario 2022, the Regional Director of IND, Nellie Miranda Eldan, stated that “we are providing all the support that Benjamín requires in technical terms, such as the physical work he does in the weight room and in addition to the accompaniment of our multidisciplinary team so that he is in the best conditions to compete and represent not only the region, but also the country”.

Along with Benjamín, the players Valentina Vásquez from the commune of Victoria and the native Curacautín athletes, Rosa Quilodrán and Nicolás Monne, players known by Bahamóndez and with whom he has shared the court in both national and international tournaments, are also part of the national badminton team. .
