The identity of Bakery Jatta has been in doubt for three years. There will probably no longer be any legal clarification. The District Court of Hamburg-Altona waived a lawsuit against the HSV professional and also justified this.

Is he really Bakery Jatta or Bakary Daffeh? This question will probably never be answered conclusively. At least not legally. Because now it looks like the professional soccer player at Hamburger SV will not have to answer in court.

“The district court of Hamburg-Altona has rejected the opening of the main proceedings because, based on the results of the investigation, it does not see sufficient suspicion against the accused,” said the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court on Tuesday.

Thomas Bliwier, Jatta’s lawyer, had previously confirmed a corresponding report by the “Hamburger Abendblatt” to the German Press Agency. “The public prosecutor’s office could not show that Mr. Jatta deceived,” explained Bliwier.

The Hamburg public prosecutor’s office brought charges against the 23-year-old attacker in December last year. According to the authority, he should actually be Bakary Daffeh, who is two and a half years his senior.

“No suspicion” against Jatta

The Gambian had been accused of violating the Residence Act in four cases and of indirect false certification in another case. The first allegations of a possible false identity of the attacker had already been made in August 2019.

“There is no suspicion and no reason for further investigations,” said Bliwier: “That has been determined.” However, the case does not have to be completely over: the public prosecutor’s office still has the chance to lodge a complaint against the court’s decision. The authority has not yet commented on this.

Escaped HSV striker

In the case of Silas Katompa Mvumpa from VfB Stuttgart, the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) pronounced a three-month suspension and a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct last summer.

VfB had made it public in advance that the offensive man had previously played under a false name and was a year older than previously stated. Katompa Mvumpa played as Silas Wamangituka before confiding in club officials.
