Barça will move for a season!

Barca management aren’t just working on Xavi’s squad. It also plans to renovate the Camp Nou, for the year 2025. And for a year, FC Barcelona players will play at the Montjuïc stadium. It was Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, who announced it on Tuesday at the microphone of Barça TV. “We have few options. If we have to play away from the Camp Nou, the most viable and logical option is Montjuïc. We have studied other options, but they were difficult or not feasible at all.”

To play at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, the club will however have to adapt the enclosure for the season in which they will have to play there, that is to say in 2023/2024. The Blaugrana club will have to spend 20 million euros. Barça does not plan to increase the capacity of the stadium (Editor’s note: 56,000 seats), but it plans to install two additional stands behind the goals to bring spectators closer and save the athletics track which runs along the surface of the field.

Montjuïc is the Olympic stadium which is located on the hill of the same name in Barcelona. Previously, the venue hosted Barcelona’s Espanyol games until 2009. Seeing Barca playing a match at Montjuïc is nothing new, however. The blaugranas have already played four games there in the 90s. Specifically, two Joan Gamper trophies and two official games. The Spanish Super Cup match against Atletico de Madrid and also a European Cup Winners’ Cup match against AEK Làrnaca. In most cases, it was due to the poor condition of the Camp Nou pitch.
