According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Rodgers and the Packers have agreed to a new four-year deal worth $200 million. Rapoport reports that the quarterback would be guaranteed to get 153 million of that sum.
By signing a new contract with the Packers, Rodgers will help them with the salary cap. With his previous contract, Rodgers was to count for 46.7 million on the payroll of the Packers in 2022. By converting a good part of Rodgers’ salary for the next season into bonuses, the Packers should significantly reduce this amount, they who were approximately 27 million on top of that before making their new deal with Rodgers.
A few teams were very interested in getting Rodgers by trade. According to rumors circulating over the weekend, the Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers have all been testing the waters.
Ultimately, Rodgers chose to stay with the team that drafted him 17 years ago. The NFL’s MVP for the past two seasons, Rodgers will become the NFL’s highest-paid player with an average annual salary of $50 million if Rapoport’s information is correct. He will thus be ahead of Patrick Mahomes (45 million), of the Kansas City Chiefs.
