In the morning Robert Strombach defeated Kasidita Samrei with the result 7-6 (7: 4), 3-6, 6-4, but in the second fight Ernest Gulbis defeated Jutan Chararophon with 6-4, 6-2. Thus, Latvia is in the lead 2-0.
On Friday, Gulbis will fight against Samreu, and Strombah with Charoenphon.
There are two games scheduled for Saturday.
Latvia is represented in the Davis Cup without Gulbs and Strombach by two non-ATP players – Reinis Kupfers and Gustavs Dambiņš.
In September, the Latvian team conceded 0-4 to Turkey, so there is currently a struggle to keep the place in the second group of the Davis World Cup.
