Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna SpA announces that it has reached an agreement until 30 June 2022 with Tornik’e Shengelia.
The statements of the CEO of Virtus Segafredo Bologna Luca Baraldi: “I believe that there are no more words that represent my personal feeling of thanks to our President Massimo Zanetti, for this latest transfer market operation which announces the arrival of a great player like Toko Shengelia. Toko will further increase the technical value and experience both nationally and internationally of our roster. Also in this case the negotiation with the player’s representatives was successfully conducted by our General Manager Paolo Ronci. The arrival of Toko, who has shown that he wants to wear the Black V shirt, despite the presence of other important offers, confirms the image that Virtus Segafredo collects in the European basketball scene. “
Large wing / center of 206 cm, Shengelia was born in Tbilisi (Georgia) on 5 October 1991.
He grew up in the Valencia youth teams before making his debut in the first team in the 2008-2009 season and winning the Eurocup the following year.
Later, after two years at Spirou Charleroi, he is chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers who sell him to the Brooklyn Nets with whom he plays the Summer League. In 2012 he signed a two-year with the Nets and was assigned to the Springfield Armor in the D-League. He ends his overseas adventure in the 2013/2014 season in the ranks of the Chicago Bulls.
After 4 years in the United States he decides to return to Europe, again in Spain: from 2014 to 2020 he wears the Baskonia tank top, becoming an icon of the Basque club with which he obtains inclusion in the All Euroleague First Team in 2017 / 2018 and the conquest of the Spanish Championship in the 2019/2020 season.
From the following season, he moved to CSKA Moscow where he won a Championship and a Super Cup.
