Mohamed Salah, self-critical: “We may have unconsciously trusted ourselves; it was important to classify” | Champions

The Egyptian, Mohamed Salah, a Liverpool attacker who hit the post twice during his team’s defeat against Inter (1-0), declared, after the game, that he was happy with qualifying for the quarterfinals, thanks to the victory in the first leg in Milan by 2-0, and stressed that “that was the important thing”.

“It’s a difficult team to play against. Even in the first leg they were good. In this game, it was difficult for us to start, but we handled the ball better in the second half,” shared the Egyptian.

“Once the red card arrived, it was over. The important thing was to qualify, we hope that the next game goes better,” he continued, recalling the expulsion of interista Alexis Sánchez (63), one minute after Lautaro Martínez’s goal (62).

The Egyptian had a first chance to put his team ahead (minute 50) and another to equalize (minute 75), but both times crashed into the Inter goalposts.

“Yes, I have hit the post twice but nothing happens, maybe in the next game I will score a hat-trick,” the Reds attacker downplayed.

Despite the defeat, Liverpool advanced to the quarterfinals due to their accumulated lead (2-1). “The important thing was to qualify,” Salah concluded. “We may have been unconsciously overconfident. But it was a good game to learn and move on to something else,” he said.
