No LBMQ all-star game in Sorel-Tracy this summer
By: Jean-Philippe Morin
The attempt to bring an all-star game from the best baseball league in Quebec to Sorel-Tracy was ultimately unsuccessful. The project of Sorelois Denis Courville was not retained.
The candidacy of the City of Sorel-Tracy was presented at the annual general meeting of the Quebec Major League Baseball (LBMQ) on February 26. A complete technical file had been prepared, grouping together the reception capacity of the event, the catering, the facilities made available to the teams, the official ceremony, etc.
“Some star players tried to monetize their participation in the event and the League could not guarantee their participation. I’m not getting into this game-the. I leave it to the League to[annoncer] their choice [d’endroit] for the presentation of the event, ”wrote the candidacy project manager Denis Courville, via Messenger, to our journalist. At the same time, he refused to elaborate further.
Recall that the City of Sorel-Tracy had committed, on February 7, to spend the sum of $2,800 for the holding of the event which would have taken place on July 30, 2022, at the René-St-Germain stadium.
For its part, the LBMQ has not ruled on a place for an all-star game. In a press release sent on Monday March 7, she underlines that the “discussions around the event were not unanimous in the group, even if the project was interesting as a whole”. The July 30 date was also problematic for logistics before the start of the playoffs scheduled for mid-August.
