Willem II can forget the return of public favorite: “I have studied the rules”

Fran Sol would love to help Willem II out of the fire, but that will be an impossible task for the Spanish public favorite. The new transfer rules for Ukraine and Russia do not apply to loaned players.

FIFA announced on Monday that players in Russia and Ukraine can suspend their contracts until June 30 to join another club on a free transfer until the summer. Sol is under contract with Dynamo Kiev, but has been loaned out to the Spanish SD Eibar and is therefore not eligible. Willem II can therefore forget his return.

“I have studied the rules, but they only apply to boys who were active in the Ukrainian competition,” Sol told Brabants Dagblad. He can no longer count on a base place in Spain. “And then you are not having a good time as a footballer.”

Sol, who caused a furore in Tilburg between 2016 and 2019, is in his last contract year. “Maybe then I can come back to Willem II,” he says. “But of course that depends on a lot of things. I really hope with all my heart that the club remains in the Eredivisie.”
