Corinne Heurley (Monéteau) crowned French indoor champion (barebow) from her first participation

First participation in the French indoor archery championships. First barebow title. Corinne Heurley clearly couldn’t have dreamed of a better start for her debut at this level. “I approached this competition with the desire to discover this level. I had prepared myself well, but I did not expect to finish champion of France for all that”, delivers the 51-year-old archer.

However, the member of Monéteau indeed arrived in Vittel with the best record of the competitors. “I finished second in qualifying. I missed my first series, and then I refocused on the second. It was above all a question of concentration, because we all know how to shoot at this level. I manage my stress,” she explains.

“I immediately fell in love with the barebow. What I liked was that there is no material aid, no viewfinder. Only the archer has an impact on whether the shot is good or not.”

Overwhelmed by this famous stress and eliminated in her first duel against the last qualified during the last regional championships, she did not reproduce the same error twice. “I approached all my duels very well. I won my quarter-final 6-1, my semi-final 6-2, and I won in the final against Sylvie Coillot (Auxonne) by the same score. was really a superb match on my side”, analyzes the Monestesian.

What legitimize all the work put in place since its beginnings six years ago. “I started thanks to my daughter who was an archer at the Cadets d’Auxerre in recurve bow. By dint of taking her to training and competition, I tried in 2016. And I immediately hooked with the barebow. What I liked is that there is no material aid, no sight. It is only the archer who has an impact on the fact that the shot either good or not”, observes the one who joined Monéteau in 2018.

Still plenty of room for improvement

With the gold medal around her neck, the Monestesian will become a target to be beaten in the next competitions. Nothing to worry about though. “I know I’m going to have a title to defend. But what I also know is that I still have some room for next year. This season I feel like I’ve really improved. Just adding a third training session, I feel the effects. It’s up to me to continue in this direction to also seek regional supremacy next year”, concludes the person concerned.
